Oprela Floor without internet: how to work when there's no connection in the workshop

Offline mode for the workshop app: how to enable it for a hall, what to do before a shift, how actions are saved on the phone and sent automatically, and what the foreman does if something doesn't match up.

In many workshops, connectivity is poor: metal walls, basements, remote corners of the hall. If the app doesn't work without a network, the operator either can't start work or writes everything down on paper, and then no one enters it.

Oprela Floor's offline mode solves this. An employee takes tasks at the beginning of the shift, works without a connection all day, and when the network appears, everything is sent automatically.

How to enable

The mode is enabled separately for each hall: Factory Configuration → Rules → Employee phones and offline work → "Oprela Floor works without internet".

Don't enable it everywhere at once. Start with one hall, work for a week, see how the foreman handles disputed cases, and only then expand it further.

In the same rule group, you can configure:

  • how many hours you can work without a connection. After this, the app will ask you to connect;
  • for how many hours tasks are reserved for the device. While the reservation is active, the foreman sees that the task is taken;
  • device clock tolerance. How much the phone's time can differ from the server's;
  • whether to accept device time for clock-in and clock-out.

Before the shift: "Prepare"

While there is a network, for example, near the entrance or in the locker room, the employee opens the "My" tab and clicks "Prepare".

The following are saved to the device:

  • tasks from the foreman;
  • drawings for them;
  • a list of delay reasons.

Tasks are reserved for this employee. Now they can go to areas without a connection.

This is the only step to remember. If "Prepare" is not clicked, there will be no tasks or drawings on the phone.

During work

Everything works the same as with a network: start, pause, resume, photo, drawing, complete.

  • Each action is first recorded on the device. Even if the phone turns off, it won't disappear.
  • The status bar shows what's saved, what's already on the server, and what's still waiting. Photos usually wait the longest.
  • As soon as a network appears, actions are sent automatically, without duplicates. No need to click anything.
  • The operation time is recorded according to the device's clock within reasonable limits. The foreman sees an "offline" mark next to such an operation.
  • The batch is reported completely: good items plus defects must equal the batch size.

When something doesn't match up

While the employee was offline, something might have changed in the system. For example, the foreman assigned the task to someone else, not knowing it was already being done.

Such actions are not discarded. They go to the foreman for review: Work Dispatch → "Offline" tab. The number next to the tab shows how many such cases there are.

The foreman sees two sides: what the device reported and what happened on the server in the meantime. Then they choose one of three options:

  • confirm — the employee is credited with the operation with their time and quantity;
  • adjust the quantity;
  • reject with a reason.

The employee receives a notification about the decision.

Actions from a phone that was revoked while offline also end up here.

The main principle: completed work does not silently disappear. The decision is always made by a person who sees both versions.

What it looks like for a manager

On the "Live Plant" page, a person whose device has not connected for several minutes is marked "offline" with the time of the last connection.

Their data may be outdated. Therefore, "no work" and "longer than usual" alerts do not trigger for them: the system does not know what is actually happening and does not make false conclusions.

Android app

Offline mode works best in a separate Android app. It's small and opens even without a network because the entire interface is already on the phone.

How to install

  1. Download the app. The "Download Android app" link is on the first screen of Oprela Floor in the browser. There's a "QR for app download" button on the kiosk.
  2. Android will ask for permission to install from this source. Allow it.
  3. Connect the phone: via QR from a responsible person or independently at the kiosk.

What it can do beyond the browser version

  • Barcode and QR scanner that works offline and reads worn labels better.
  • Background sending. If the phone is put in a pocket or the app is closed, saved actions will be sent automatically as soon as a network appears.
  • Notifications. New task, task removed, foreman reviewed offline work.

Phone notifications

Configured for each hall: Factory Configuration → Rules → Notifications.

  • "Employee phone notifications" — enables them.
  • "Only those at work" — only the person with an open shift entry receives notifications. Night shifts work, and no one is disturbed at home.

Notifications are a hint, not the only channel. The task will appear in the app after synchronization even without it. Shared kiosks do not receive notifications.

Tips for the foreman

  • Get people used to "Prepare". The easiest way is to make it part of the morning ritual: clock in at the kiosk, click "Prepare", go to work.
  • Review the "Offline" tab twice a day. Unreviewed cases affect both accounting and the person's earnings.
  • Don't assign tasks without checking the reservation. If a task is reserved for a device, it's most likely already being done.
  • Check the clocks. A phone with a clock off by an hour will create unnecessary disputed cases.

Typical day with offline mode

  1. The employee arrives and clocks in at the kiosk.
  2. While there is a network, they click "Prepare".
  3. They go to their workstation and work all day without a connection.
  4. During lunch, they go to where there is a network. Actions are sent automatically.
  5. The foreman sees the updated progress and reviews the "Offline" tab if there's anything there.
  6. At the end of the shift, the employee ensures the status bar shows "all sent".

Frequently Asked Questions

No tasks on the phone

"Prepare" was not clicked or there was no network at that moment. Connect to the network and click again.

The status bar shows photos are waiting

Photos are heavy and are sent last. Leave the app open where there is a network.

The foreman rejected my operation

The notification contains the reason. Most often, the task was already assigned to someone else. Talk to the foreman.

The app asks to connect to the network

The allowed offline working time, set in the hall rules, has expired. Go to where there is a connection.

Does offline work on the kiosk?

The mode is designed for personal phones. Kiosks are usually located where there is a network.

What happens if the phone runs out of battery in the middle of an operation?

Everything you managed to click is saved. After turning it on, the actions will be sent.
